Disorderly Light Rail Passenger Assaults Police
On 2/27/17 at approximately 4:45 pm, the Riverside Police
were notified by a passenger on the NJ Light Rail Train of a disorderly male
subject who was consuming alcoholic beverages and cursing at multiple passengers. Riverside officers responded and boarded the northbound
train as soon as it entered the station.
They located John J. Brown, 62 years, of Belmar, NJ in possession of
multiple open containers of beer.
While police were attempting to escort him off the train, he assaulted one of the Riverside officers and then spit in the
face of another Riverside officer. Brown was taken into custody and transported
to the Riverside Police Department. He
was then transferred to Lourdes Medical Center to be treated for his extreme
level of intoxication. One of the officers was also treated and released without serious injuries.
Brown was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Open Container of Alcohol in Public.
