United States Coast Guard Drops in on Riverside Middle School Students
Members
of the United States Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City arrived in their always recognizable
orange and white helicopter to put on a display for Middle School Students at Bob Kenney field.
The
children learned many lessons about safety from the entire USCG crew. Rescue
Swimmer Mike Gerent showed the children the rescue basket and all the equipment
swimmers must wear when they are needed. Aviation Maintenance Technician Grant
McGahee showed the children the cabin where they keep people they have rescued
safe. Lt. Brent Hardgrave showed the children the copilot seat and explained
how the copilot helps the crew accomplish their mission. Lt. Erin Warwick
showed the children the pilot seat where she explained the importance of
knowing how the helicopter works and how to safely operate in all sorts of
conditions.
We would like to thank Ptl. Timothy Marano and his wife for setting up this program. A special thank you goes out to Chief Petty Officer Mike Gerent and his crew for this demonstration and keeping us safe! Thank you for your service and your time today!
