Man Runs From Police During Crash Investigation

On November 2, 2020 at approximately 1:10pm, patrol officers with the Riverside Township Police Department were dispatched to a traffic accident involving a motor vehicle and two bicycles modified with gas-powered engines.  One of the motorized bicycles struck a moving vehicle along Carroll St.  The officers identified one of the riders as Connor Vandergon, 20 yrs, Beverly, NJ.  The other rider was identified as a 15 year old juvenile.  Neither of the riders were injured.

While investigating the crash and the legality of the modified motorized bicycles, Vandergon refused to comply with the officers and attempted to take his bike and ride off.   The officers ordered Vandergon to stop, and he ignored them.  The officers then ran after him and attempted to place him under arrest.  Vandergon pulled away from police and continued to ignore the officers commands to stop.  He threw his bike onto the street and ran from them into the backyards of nearby homes, causing one of the officers to sustain a leg injury.  After several minutes of searching for Vandergon, he was eventually located at the rear of a shed trying to conceal himself in a bed of ivy.  He was then taken into custody without further incident.

Connor Vandergon was charged with Aggravated Assault on Police, Resisting Arrest by Flight, Obstructing the Administration of Law, and Defiant Trespassing.  He was also issued multiple motor vehicle violations for his operation of the modified motorized bicycle.  Vandergon was processed and  released pending court.
