Riverside Police Concerned About Juvenile Crime Spike

The Riverside Township Police Department has encountered a substantial increase in juvenile related incidents since the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. We have attempted to mediate and de-escalate these incidents when and where appropriate. Most notably we have seen a substantial increase in violent incidents involving our juvenile community. We would like to ask the assistance of all parents and guardians of our juvenile community to help us in attempting to decrease these incidents. The Riverside Township Police Department cannot allow this unlawful, dangerous and disorderly behavior to continue.

Going forward the Riverside Township Police Department, when appropriate according to NJ Laws, will be proceeding with criminal charges against any juvenile that has committed an offense that meets the criteria for the lodging of such charges.

Please make sure all juveniles are aware of the Riverside Township Local Ordinance regarding curfew. All juveniles found to be in violation will be taken into protective custody, and will only be released to a parent or guardian at the Riverside Township Police Station. Curfew time Sunday through Thursday is 10 PM and 11 PM Friday and Saturday.

Respectfully,

William T. Eliason

Chief of Police
