Riverside Officer's Ingenuity Saves Trapped Squirrel
On June 5th 2022, Riverside Police Officers
responded to a call for service after a child heard an animal trapped in a
pipe. Officers located a 4 inch wide pipe at the base of a utility pole and
heard an animal in distress. One of the officers retrieved a wet/dry vac from their
residence to attempt to pull the animal from the pipe. After securing netting over the suction hose to prevent injury to
the animal, officers were able to pull a very scared wet squirrel to safety
from approximately 4 ft underground!
The squirrel was transported to a nearby wildlife refuge where it is expected to make a full recovery due to the officer’s ingenuity and quick response. See rescue video below.
