Escaped Felon Captured during Car Theft, Crash

This past Friday at approximately 4:40 pm, the Riverside Police responded to a call for a motor vehicle theft occurring near 3rd Street and Lippincott Avenue.  While en route, the officers were notified that the vehicle had crashed into a tree near 4th Street and Lippincott Avenue, and the suspects were fleeing on foot.  Units from Delran and Delanco Police Departments also responded to assist. 

The victims and neighbors quickly relayed information describing the suspects to dispatchers and responding officers.  The officers chased the suspects through backyards and over fences for several minutes.  All FOUR suspects were apprehended.  They were identified as Martin Rodriguez, 31 yrs of Camden, NJ, Lemuel Figueroa, 18 yrs of Camden, NJ, Justin Serrano, 18 yrs of Gloucester City, NJ, along with a 14 year old female. 

During processing, Martin Rodriguez refused to provide his identification to officers.  Detectives eventually identified him and found him to be a WANTED PERSON for having escaped from a New Jersey state correctional facility earlier this month.  The NJ Department of Corrections reported that Rodriguez was approximately 13 years into a 15 year sentence for Aggravated Manslaughter stemming from a 2008 murder investigation in Camden, NJ.   

The criminal charges in this case include Theft of a Motor Vehicle (3rd), Conspiracy to Commit MV Theft (3rd), Resisting Arrest by Flight (4th), Hindering Apprehension (4th), Trespassing (DP), along with numerous motor vehicle offenses. 

Rodiriguez was charged and then turned over to a United States Marshall to be lodged in a correctional facility. 

Figueroa was lodged at Burlington County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.  Serrano was charged and released pending court and the 14 year old female was charged and turned over to her family.
