Car Burglar Caught After Foot Chase

Riverside Township Police
Riverside, NJ

Riverside - This past Friday, in the early morning hours, officers with the Riverside Township Police assisted Delran Township Police with a call for two suspects attempting to enter parked vehicles.  Several callers reported these suspects to be wearing all black, walking in the area of Pancoast Blvd and Smith St, lifting car door handles.  While en route, officers received information that a caller located the suspects inside of his vehicle, and they ran from him into a wooded area near Pancoast Blvd.

Riverside Patrol Officers deployed a drone to that area and set up a perimeter along Henry Street and Whittaker St.  A Riverside officer located one of the suspects attempting to exit the wooded area along Whittaker St and Fairview St.  A foot chase ensued through the woods.  The suspect was located attempting to exit the yard of a residence along Henry St where he was taken into custody by two Riverside officers.  The suspect was identified as a 17 year old male juvenile from Trenton, NJ.  His name is being withheld due to his age.  The juvenile suspect was found to have proceeds from the thefts in his possession.

He was charged with:

Resisting Arrest by Flight (3rd)

Obstructing the Administration of Law (4th)

Defiant Trespassing (PDP)

Receiving Stolen Property (DP)

The juvenile was released to a family member pending a court hearing at Burlington County Juvenile Court.

Please remember to keep your vehicle and your residence secured at all times.  If you observe suspicious activity, report it right away.  Try to provide our dispatchers with essential information such as clothing descriptions and direction of travel.  If you can safely observe, stay on the phone with  the dispatcher or leave a call back number.  You can also ask to remain anonymous.  Anonymous calls are better than not calling, but at times we need more information when we arrive and are unable to get it when the caller was anonymous. The information you provide is often the difference in making  an arrest or having to let a criminal go because we cannot positively identify them.

If you believe you are witnessing criminal activity requiring immediate police response dial 911 immediately.
