Multi-jurisdictional Vehicle Burglaries and Thefts Being Investigated

Over the past few months, numerous groups of suspects have been committing multiple vehicle burglaries and thefts throughout the State of New Jersey.  Within Riverside Township, we have had fourteen vehicles illegally entered with property stolen in six of those cases along with two arrests made.  The one common factor in these crimes is that the vehicle doors were not locked.  Please remember to lock your vehicle (and your residence) at all times.  Do not leave items of value in your car, especially in plain view.  While these crimes tend to take place primarily between the hours of 2 am and 5 am it is best to lock your doors whenever you are away from your vehicle.

Our Riverside Township Detectives are actively investigating these cases and working with multiple jurisdictions in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to identify and charge the remaining suspects.  Our patrol officers will continue to proactively patrol the streets of Riverside Township, enforce traffic violations, investigate potential criminal activity and arrest those offenders.

We greatly appreciate our residents’ support in our efforts to keep our town safe and free of these crimes.  If you believe, you are witnessing criminal activity requiring immediate police response, dial 911 immediately.  If you observe suspicious activity, report it right away.  Our non-emergency line is 856-461-3434.  Try to provide our dispatchers with essential information such as clothing descriptions and direction of travel.  Do not confront these suspects because we have found through our investigations, that many of these suspects may be armed.  If you can safely observe, stay on the phone with the dispatcher or leave a call back number.  You may also ask to remain anonymous.
