Suspect Arrested in Car Theft and Series of Overnight Vehicle Burglaries

During the week of February 1st, the Riverside Township Police Department began receiving reports of vehicle burglaries occurring during the overnight hours.  Victims reported several items were stolen from their unlocked vehicles.  During the course of the investigation, a resident reported that his motor vehicle was stolen.  Through the diligent investigative efforts of the Riverside Police Detectives, the vehicle used in the commission of these crimes was identified.  Detectives subsequently identified a suspect involved in these incidents.

On February 13th, one of the suspects, Naseem Smith, age 27, of Camden, NJ, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Camden County Police Department.  Smith was processed at the Riverside Township Police Department and was lodged in the Burlington County Correctional Facility.

Naseem Smith was charged with:

• Receiving a Stolen Vehicle
• Burglary
• Theft of Motor Vehicle
• Theft of Credit Cards

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are pending.

The Riverside Township Police Department would like to remind residents not to leave their vehicles unlocked and never to leave keys or key fobs inside their cars. Most vehicle burglaries occur when doors are left unsecured, and small prevention steps can go a long way in protecting your property.
