Eight Arrested and Charged in Heroin Distribution Investigation


After street intelligence was obtained that the heroin market in Camden City was going to be on the move up into the “River Towns," an aggressive operation was put into place back in April by the Riverside Police Department. During that time several targets operating in and around the Riverside area were identified as working together with suspected ties to the “Bloods” Street Gang. The investigation into this particular ring began in early May and continued until early July.

 On June 26th  Riverside Police apprehended four of the subjects involved in the ring and several others were charged and or arrested for possession or loitering to possess a controlled dangerous substance. Three of the suspects involved in the distribution ring were observed conducting what was believed to be hand to hand drug transactions on a corner near Spring Garden Park. The suspects were also observed trespassing on the porch of a vacant property and drinking alcohol in public. Police moved in and arrested 5 subjects including a member of the “Bloods” Street Gang. A 17 year old male from Beverly was arrested along with John Derosa Jr. (aka “JD”) 38 of Riverside his son Anthony Derosa 18 of Riverside, Karuda Medley 23 of Pennsauken, and Jason Washington (aka “Jay-Blakk”) 26 of Camden. John Derosa Jr. and Washington were found in possession of suspected heroin and prescription pills which were packaged for distribution. Also found was packaging material for heroin. Both John Derosa Jr. and Washington were lodged in the Burlington County Jail in default of bail.

Later that day Investigators were also aware that the main supplier would make frequent trips into Riverside and drop of various illegal drugs to the group and sell to others in the area. The supplier was a Bilal Ali (aka “Smoov”) 24 of Delran. It was known to police that his driver’s license was suspended and he had active warrants for his arrest. A patrol alert was put out and he was observed entering Riverside operating a motor vehicle. He was stopped and arrested on active arrest warrants and driving on a suspended driver’s license. His vehicle was impounded and he was lodged in Burlington County Jail on his outstanding warrants. The police continued to investigate and applied for a search warrant after a police K-9 alerted a positive detection.

Police obtained a Search Warrant for the apartment where Jason Washington, John and Anthony Derosa were living. Riverside Police then executed the search warrant on the residence which was located in the 500 Block of Fairview Street. Investigators located an undisclosed amount of heroin and products used to package the drug for distribution.

On June 30 a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle which was driven by Bilal Ali. A search of the vehicle revealed heroin packaged for distribution and prescription drugs. On July 3rd Mr. Ali was arrested when he came to the station to retrieve property from the vehicle. He was lodged in Burlington County Jail in default of $100,000 cash bail. Ramere Johnson 19 of Riverside turned himself in on his charges for his involvement in the distribution ring as well as Dylan Moyer 19 of Willingboro.

Charges for the suspects include:
Bilal Ali: Possession and distribution of Heroin, Distribution in a School Zone, Distribution within 500 Feet of Public Park, Possession of prescription drugs, Obstruction of Law and Driving While Suspended.

John Derosa Jr.: Possession and distribution of Heroin, Distribution in a School Zone, Distribution within 500 Feet of Public Park, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession and distribution of prescription drugs and possession of an open container in public.

Jason Washington: Possession with the intent to distribute prescription drugs, Distribution in a School Zone, Distribution Within 500 Feet of Public Park, Possession of Heroin and packaging material for the distribution of heroin, Open Container in Public and the Possession of Fireworks.

Anthony Derosa:  Possession of Heroin, Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Wandering to Obtain or Sell a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

Ramere Johnson:  Possession of Heroin, Wandering to Obtain or Sell a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Dylan Moyer:  Possession of Heroin, Wandering to Obtain or Sell a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 
    
Karuda Medley:  Wandering to Obtain or Sell a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Open Container in Public.

17 year old Juvenile: 2 counts of Wandering to Obtain or Sell a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
