Riverside Police Begin Taser Use

Ptl. Sean Nolan and Ptl. Anthony Cicali recently completed a "train the trainer" course for the use of Taser conducted energy devices.  The program was hosted by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office in conjunction with an instructor from the manufacturer.  "The use of this device may allow officers to resolve a confrontation without it escalating to a level where deadly force is required."  Tasers deliver an electrical charge intended to temporarily disable a person.  The use of the device is strictly regulated by the New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines.  Each device is equipped with a camera.   Each time the device is fired at or discharged upon a person, the circumstances and outcome of the device's use is reviewed and reported.  The Tasers are being deployed on a limited basis until additional officers are trained and more Tasers are able to be purchased.
