Disorderly Light Rail Passenger Assaults Police

On 2/27/17 at approximately 4:45 pm, the Riverside Police were notified by a passenger on the NJ Light Rail Train of a disorderly male subject who was consuming alcoholic beverages and cursing at multiple passengers.   Riverside officers responded and boarded the northbound train as soon as it entered the station.  They located John J. Brown, 62 years, of Belmar, NJ in possession of multiple open containers of beer.  While police were attempting to escort him off the train, he assaulted one of the Riverside officers and then spit in the face of another Riverside officer.  Brown was taken into custody and transported to the Riverside Police Department.  He was then transferred to Lourdes Medical Center to be treated for his extreme level of intoxication.   One of the officers was also treated and released without serious injuries.
Brown was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Open Container of Alcohol in Public.
