Three Suspects Apprehended After Foot Chase

Riverside Township Police
Riverside, NJ

Riverside – Yesterday evening at approximately 6:24 pm, the Riverside Township Police were dispatched to the area of Delaware Avenue for the report of a man who was assaulted and his vehicle stolen.  The victim reported to officers that he was returning to his vehicle after making a food delivery and saw a man entering the driver’s seat of his Toyota Camry.  A physical altercation between the vehicle owner and the suspect then ensued.  The suspect then assaulted the owner of the vehicle, pulled out a knife and threatened to harm him.  The suspect (later identified as a 16 year old juvenile) then sped away in the victim’s vehicle, taking additional food deliveries and cash.  The suspect had two accomplices with him who attempted to enter the vehicle during the altercation in an apparent attempt to take cash and food.  They rode off on bicycles after the suspect stole the vehicle.

Riverside and Delran officers searched the area for the suspects.  They located the victim’s vehicle abandoned several blocks away from where the incident occurred.  The officers then located three teenagers fitting the suspects’ description walking on the same street several blocks away.  The officers stopped the subjects and identified them as Tamar R. Gunby, 19 yrs, of Riverside, NJ accompanied by two 16 year old juveniles from Camden, NJ.  The officers noticed the suspects were eating food that matched the specific type of food the driver was delivering.  Through their investigation, the subjects were positively identified as the suspects involved in this case.  While attempting to place the suspects under arrest, one of the juveniles ran from the officers.  After a foot chase through several backyards, the fleeing juvenile was apprehended.  The other two suspects were also taken into custody.
