DOG OWNER ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY

Riverside – On Sunday evening, at approximately 10:42 pm, an adult male, identified as Edward Moore, Jr, 26 yrs of Riverside, NJ, arrived at the Riverside Township Police Department holding a female dog that had a severe laceration to the head.  The dog, an American Pit Bull breed, was bleeding profusely from her head.  Moore told police that he found the dog near his home in the municipal parking lot along Bridgeboro St.  A Riverside Township patrol officer took custody of the injured dog and transported her to an animal hospital. 

An investigation was opened for animal cruelty.  Officers located a trail of blood outside the police station and traced it back to a nearby apartment.  One of the tenants of that apartment was found to be Moore.  As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Moore was the owner of the dog.  Officers discovered that Moore allegedly struck the dog in the face with a machete after it defecated inside the apartment. 

Moore was placed under arrest and transported to the Riverside Township Police Department where he was charged and processed for:

Animal Cruelty Involving Serious Bodily Injury – 3rd degree

Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose – 3rd degree

Possession of a Weapon – 4th

Moore was released pending court. 

The Pit Bull was treated for lacerations and a fractured skull but was expected to recover.
